Al Faz’a (scarecrow)
Making Al Faz’a (scarecrow) is one of the traditional practices concerning agriculture mainly in Al Salt. It is made by putting two sticks in the form of across and dressing them with old clothes. The common form is a humanoid-like figure placed in the ground in open fields the scarecrow is posted on cultivated ground and used in the fields of cucumber, tomatoes, figs and grapes. Also, it is used to deter birds or other animals from disturbing or feeding on recently cast seed and growing crops. In addition, used to help the animals not to be scared for the absence of the shepherd. They will think that their Shepherd is there. Sometimes it is used against thieves in the night to make them feel there is somebody guarding the field.
